PDO Thread Lift – Non Surgical Face Lift Treatment

No cuts or incisions. This treatment is done purely with injections.
Facial Thread Lifting

PDO Thread Lift is a non-surgical procedure that rejuvenates, regenerates and improves the structure of the face in a similar way to a surgical facelift, but without the need for surgery. Facial Thread Lifting uses specialised threads, which are introduced into the skin with a very fine needle to lift tissue and muscle and improve skin texture.

Facial Lifting with threads is a quick, minimally invasive option for those people where gravity has started to take hold of their face and has started to sag. Your clinician can tighten and lift the skin on your cheeks, brows, jaw line and neck without the need to cut your skin.

How does the face lift work?

The threads used are made of soluble PDO (polydioxanone), which is a material that has been used in medicine for many years, mainly in surgery. However, research has shown that PDO relaxes muscles and tendons, and also stimulates the neocollagenesis process, which encourages the production of new collagen in the skin. PDO also stimulates the synthesis of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, both of which are vital for keeping the skin looking plump and youthful.

The PDO thread is inserted into the skin through a very fine needle. Depending on the area to be treated, the thread is introduced into the skin itself, the subcutaneous fat, or the muscle. A lifted appearance can be seen immediately following the treatment, however, the results will improve in the following days and weeks as the PDO stimulates neocollagenesis, which in turn produces collagen. The overall texture of the skin is improved; it becomes thicker, tighter and firmer and fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed away.

Different lengths, textures and thicknesses of thread are used for different areas of the face. Short strands of threads can be used to treat fine lines around the eyes, while thicker strands can be injected into the muscles of the forehead as an alternative to Botulinum Toxin (Botox). Longer threads can correct and lift the neck and jawline.

The body naturally absorbs the threads over three to eight months, however, some clients report the effect of the treatment can last for up to two years. As with any other procedure results cannot be guaranteed.

Why a dentist is the person to perform facial rejuvenation treatments

This is a very important factor when deciding where to undergo facial aesthetic treatment and there are a number of reasons why a dentist should be the professional that performs facial rejuvenation treatments.

A dentist already knows the facial anatomy, they give multiple injections every day so are more gentle when performing the treatment. Dentists also already understand the physiology, skeletal structures, vascular and nervous system of the face, and overall facial aesthetics to give you your desired look.

Only dentists know and are concerned about the proper ratios of lips to teeth, the smile considerations when the patients go into a partial or a full smile, proper phonetics, and how the teeth relate to the soft tissue surrounding the mouth.

Treatment FAQs

What are PDO threads made of?

PDO stands for polydioxanone. It is an absorbable polymer material that is flexible and durable for minimally invasive thread lifts.

Which areas can be treated with the thread lifting?

The threads are extremely versatile and can be used all around the face and neck. They can treat vertical and horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, sagging brows, drooping cheeks, pronounced nasolabial (nose to mouth) and marionette (corner of mouth to chin) folds, sagging jawline and neck, and folds and wrinkles on the chin.

Can I still have fillers and peels?

Yes and the results will be more dramatic if PDO thread lift is combined with these treatments. You will be advised when you can have these treatments so you can plan in advance.

How long does it take for PDO threads to heal?

Most patients are able to resume normal activity within 1 week post procedure.

What results can I expect from the Thread Lift?

The PDO threads will give the skin an immediate, natural improvement in appearance. After about 10-14 days, the process of natural body protein synthesis begins and continues over a period of two years, keeping the texture of the skin smooth and supple. The picture below is an example of one of my clients that I performed a jaw line lift with PDO threads. The picture is immediately before and after the treatment.

What immediate and longtime results can I expect?

Immediately afterwards you may be pink, have some bruising and sometimes a dark line can be visible where certain threads have been implanted, these resolve without any intervention over the following week. The area treated will feel tighter than before and results are visible immediately, though results vary from person to person. Over the following 180-240 days the PDO threads will stimulate collagen while they are gently broken down by the body’s immune system. You will be offered a review appointment 3 months after any PDO treatment.
